How to become an SEO Google champion
Google is like an olympic podium. 1st place is Gold – you rule the world. 2nd place, Silver – you’re pretty famous. 3rd, Bronze – a lot of people still want your signature. But after that you don’t exist.
People don’t tend to think about it any more, they just Google it. So as much as the internet has opened things up in business, it’s also narrowed things down to this one single almighty search engine. You might offer much better quality, better value, and your service might be nobel prize winning. But Joe Chancer could still feature way ahead of you in the rankings – and therefore be stealing your customers.
The most frustrating thing of all is that it can seem like a bit of a mystery as to what exactly grabs the google spiders’ attention. Lots of people promise to give you SEO, but do only half the job. So here’s the full low-down on how to get high rankings.
Get active
Searchability depends on many things that we all know about: having the right keywords, the right site structure and the right links. But nothing helps your rankings more than having an active site that’s constantly being used and updated and shared.
You need good content
To achieve this the rule is simple: your content needs to be real, readable and recent. Otherwise people just ignore it. It means you have to spend quite a bit of time keeping your site refreshed and relevant, but it makes a huge difference.
You need to go large
Not only do you need useful material, you need lots of it. The idea is that the more words you have, the more keywords can be liberally sprinkled through them and picked up by the Google spiders.
You need to be a bit of a nerd
Sad but true. We, for example, have our own cunning methodology for putting together an SEO strategy. It goes something like this:
- Research the company’s keywords
- Set up Google Adwords
- Create a landing page for Adwords
- Meta Data Creation (did I warn you it was nerdy?)
- On Page SEO
- Off Page SEO and Link Building
- Ongoing Review
(We DO have someone at the office who can explain all of this clearly.)
You need to be regular and patient
You need to keep at it for at least 6 months to achieve a good organic ranking on Google. That means adding content, structuring your SEO and tweaking your online campaign all the time – without getting bored or throwing in the towel. If you want to be extremely competitive, keeping at it for 12 months helps you achieve the highest rankings and also puts you in a great position to plan your SEO strategy for the future.
Easy for you to say, you might say. As a matter of fact it is – at Whype we do this sort of thing all the time. Do get in touch if you want some help.
